Our Church
Free Spirit Ministries began as a bi-weekly prayer service with six people on January 12, 1991. Under the leadership of Minister Timothy Byron McGhee and with the inspiration of his wife, Prophetess Bernadine Bell McGhee, the first service was held at the Holiday Inn at 17040 South Halsted Street in Harvey, Illinois. Highly anointed services, engulfed with the presence of God and practical teaching of the Word, caused many to come to know Jesus Christ as their personal savior and spurred membership growth as well.
As God’s will became clarified, the leadership took a step of faith and Free Spirit Ministries officially became a church in January of 1992. Free Spirit Ministerial Church became the ministry's endorsed name at that time. Since that inception, tremendous growth in the power and anointing of God and membership has consistently prevailed. Several temporary venues housed the services, including the Pastor’s home, Caroline Sibley School in Calumet City, Seton Prairie School in South Holland, Illinois and the Ramada Inn in Harvey, Illinois.
On November 20, 1997, the ministry purchased its “Promised Land” at 16012 South Cottage Grove Avenue in South Holland, IL. During the renovation period, God showed our Senior Pastor that this edifice would be a “Haven of Worship.” Acting under the direction of the Holy Ghost, Pastor McGhee announced the ministry’s current name: "Free Spirit Ministerial Worship Center".
Upon completion of massive renovations, our “Ribbon-Cutting” ceremony occurred on December 23, 2001 and our first official church service in “our own home” was held. It was a joyous time of celebration and many friends and family were present to share in our bliss. During a most sacred and solemn service, Bishop Kenneth Ulmer officially dedicated our church edifice in October 2002.
Although our church was founded in January, we celebrate the church anniversary, entitled “Shabach” from the 2nd Sunday in March through the 3rd Sunday in March. This allows for greater participation as people recover from the demands of the winter holidays.
Under the tutelage of Timothy Byron McGhee as Senior Pastor and Prophetess Bernadine Bell McGhee as Assistant Pastor, we endeavor to pursue all that God has for this church and to complete the vision according to His divine purpose.
